Celebrate Harvest season in Nova Scotia with these great family recipes

Harvest season in Nova Scotia has got to be one of our favourite times of the year. The leaves changing colour, the crispness in the air, and the flavour we start to get from the abundance of fresh fruit and vegetables is truly world class. We’ve looked into our own recipe archive as well as some of our favourite Atlantic Canadian food bloggers, and have come up with a great batch of recipes to help celebrate harvest season with the whole family.

Quick and easy caramelized onion bacon jam

When we think of cold weather, the idea of waking up with warm breakfast is a sure-fire way to take advantage of the day. This super easy recipe pairs Harvest and Wild’s popular Caramelized Red Onion chutney with wonderful smoky bacon. The result is truly moreish. We love putting this one to an English muffin and topping it with a soft poached egg. Mornings have never started better.

This recipe from Kelly Neil reminds us of our childhood, with the classic and unique Nova Scotia oatcakes. A great snack, or enjoyed with a cup of tea on a cold day. We especially love pairing it with some good cheddar and a dollop of Harvest and Wild’s Apple Ale Chutney. Fun fact: Kelly was one of our original product testers when we were launching Harvest and Wild!

OK, so this is more for the adults in the family but lets be honest if you’ve had kids all day long, sometimes a nice cocktail is required. From Liv B, this cocktail marries crisp autumnal apple with warm ginger. We are loving it!
